Protect and use
Although the local government reform has given us more control of our own natural environment, we have to set our level of ambition against a series of national targets for the area. As a local authority member of the Development Network – Copenhagen West, we have to work with other local government bodies to facilitate targeted planning and services across local authority borders. It is up to us to decide how to use our green areas and preserve the values of our natural environment.
· We will improve conditions for indigenous flora and fauna, and thus increase the area’s natural biodiversity.
· We will use nature’s own development potential to manage the woodland and countryside of Albertslund.
· We will offer information and activities that give people better opportunities to experience, understand, and feel responsible for nature, countryside, the environment and natural history.
A green profile
Albertslund is a ‘green’ local authority that appeals to present and future residents as well trade and industry. However, few people outside Albertslund are aware of our green profile. A strong profile as a green local authority would be one way of showing resource-strong families that Albertslund is a good place to live.
· We will be known inside and outside the local authority district for our green areas.
· We will encourage schools and daycare centres to use nature as part of their daily learning and physical activities, and will consider highlighting daycare centres with nature or sports profiles.

Copenhagen West developing – towns in motion
Open countryside
Vision
In 2020, Copenhagen West wants to be known for:
· The high quality of its continuous expanses of varied countryside within easy distance of urban areas.
· Landscapes and natural environments that offer a wealth of unique opportunities for outdoor activities as well as cultural and nature pursuits, thus providing an ideal setting for healthy, active living for everyone.
· Varied landscapes and natural environments that attract people to visit, live and work in Copenhagen West.
· Countryside that is considered an asset for all parts of the region.
Strategy and action plan
The local authorities in Business Development Network – Copenhagen West will work together to:
· Manage and develop the countryside and natural environments of Copenhagen West according to sustainable principles. Natural and cultural landscapes should be cared for through a balanced policy of protection and use. High-quality landscapes should have a variety of flora and fauna and types of countryside.
· Promote opportunities for cultural outdoor activities in the countryside and forge links with the experience economy.
· Enhance the quality of local residents’ lives and health by offering opportunities for exercise and other activities in the countryside and natural environment.
· Ensure that optimal environmental solutions and high-quality landscape adaptations and designs are used in planning major upcoming infrastructure projects.
Increase accessibility and develop and manage areas in existing green wedges and rings, as well as in the new extended wedges and the ‘fourth green ring’.
