In Denmark, every person has a personal registration number, which is called a CPR-number (Central Person Register).

The CPR-number is essential in relation to any contact with Danish authorities, especially in connection with taxes, health, and social security issues.

Learn more about the CPR-number and becoming a Danish citizen at Life in Danmark.dk.

When you move to Denmark and hold a residence permit, you are covered by the Danish welfare system, ensuring access to free healthcare.

In Denmark, most treatments are free, as long as you have a yellow health insurance card. To register and get your yellow card, you can book an appointment at +45 43 68 68 68 or visit Life in Denmark.dk.

If you lose your yellow card, or if you want to change your GP later on, the local libraries can help you with online self-service.

Read more about health insurance at Life in Denmark.dk.

    GP - your family doctor

Once you are registered in the Central Person Register, you are entitled to choose your own general practitioner (GP).

Your GP can help with you with illness, pregnancy, medical statements, etc., and is available to you during opening hours.

If you need medical assistance outside of opening hours, call 1813, and in case of emergencies, call 112.

You can register with a new GP whenever you want to. It is free of charge to change your GP if you are moving to a different address, but otherwise it will cost a small fee.

Read more about getting a GP at Life in Denmark.dk.

If you need help changing your GP online, visit the local libraries or call City Hall at: +45 43 68 68 68.

    • Albertslund Rusmiddelcenter: for struggles with addiction, both alcohol and drugs, and they can help both users and those close to users.

    Childcare/daycare facilities

You can enrol your child in different types of daycare facilities.
Before you can enrol your child in a daycare facility, you will need a Danish CPR number and MitID.

You can apply via the digital student enrolment at Life In Denmark.dk. If you need help with the application, citizen service at the main library in Albertslund can help.

    Elementary school

    Compulsory education
It is mandatory for children living in Denmark to attend school, as they are subject to compulsory education.
The same applies for children with residence permits, who are required to stay in the country for at least six months.

Compulsory education means that parents have a duty to enrol their child in public school, or in a similar educational facility.

Compulsory education takes effect in August in the year, the child turns six years old. Compulsory education ceases in effect, when the child has received education regularly for 10 years, from grade 0 to the 9th grade.
Otherwise, compulsory education will cease in effect on July 31st in the year, the child turns 17 years old.

Reception classes – an offer for newly arrived children of school age
The purpose of a reception class is to develop the child’s Danish language, while teaching them in the same courses that apply to the regular public school.

Students, who are not yet capable of participating in regular lessons at the time, they are enrolled into school, must be offered basic lessons in Danish as their second language.

The reception classes regularly accept children of school age, meaning children from the age of six as well as older children arriving the country at a later time.

The reception classes are situated at Herstedvester Skole.

The lessons in the reception classes are meant to provide the students with basic proficiency in Danish, after a maximum of two years.

Besides Danish, the lessons in the reception classes include the same variety of courses as the regular public school.

Once the child’s proficiency in Danish is deemed sufficient enough, they will be transferred to a regular class. The regular class will be at the district school assigned to the parents’ address.

    Contact

An SFO is for children from pre-school up to children in the 3rd grade, while the clubs are for children and young people from the 4th grade to the age of 17.

You are welcome to come visit the after-school centres in Albertslund, if you want to know more about them.
